The team removed the brick at the fireplace and added a terrazzo hearth with custom brass. The angles of the walls made a traditional furniture layout awkward, so the designers opted to float the custom sofa in the center so circulation flows easily around it. Yuan added skylights throughout the house to bring more light into the interior, including this one over the central island, which also has pendants by In Common With. The floors are by D’Hanis Terracotta Tile.

The home is a study in how to receive light throughout the day—from sunrise to sunset. The master bedroom’s windows frame the sunrise and welcome in morning light.

The front elevation of the home remained modest in appearance with a simple vertical addition, maintaining the typical Austin bungalow aesthetic.

A new outdoor deck addition, which meets the local council’s requirements for site coverage, was built in the rear garden.
