In the house’s single bedroom, a queen-size bed sits on a platform constructed by local woodworkers.

The polished concrete floor inside gives way to a brick patio and a garden behind the house. Two embaúba trees grow up the atrium from indoor beds in the living room. The Atibaia counter stools and Eclipse dining table are from Casa Paulo Alves. The Tiza chairs are from Del Portillo. The C11 white sofa by Marcus Ferreira is from Carbono, and the metal-framed lounge chairs are from Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The metal planter is from AMP. The kitchen cabinetry was designed by Arkitito.

A custom oak built-in sectional was created with storage underneath and behind, making use of every square inch. The cushions and throw are from Swans Island Company. And the sconces on the sloped wall are from Cedar & Moss.

Oak cabinetry that was milled from the site is topped with Deer Isle granite. Locally manufactured tile from nearby Camden adds a textured sheen. And Muuto pendant lights hang over the bar.

The kitchen has vintage pendants from Rejuvenation and counter stools from Denver Modern. The backsplash and kitchen island inset are made from Oscura Rectangle Cotto tiles from Zia Tile. The kitchen appliances are from Thermador. The Minta faucet is from Grohe. Coppola Custom Woodworking made the oak cabinetry.

In this seating area off the main living room, Amanda designed a built-in seating area. "When we first moved into the house, I hung out in this space all the time,

The Zero area rug is from Nordic Knots.

The Bok teak dining set from Ethnicraft is paired with vintage Gastone Rinaldi steel-and-suede chairs.

The dining table was custom made by Workboots & Glasses. The Neat dining chairs are from Blue Dot. The bench and cabinetry were custom made by mLowe Design. The Zakohani pendant light is by ClayP, and the Cape ceiling lights are from Cedar and Moss. The pink and green tile accents are from Zia Tile. The faucet and cabinet pulls are from deVOL Kitchens. The windows are from Sierra Pacific.

Inside, old and new, private and public, colorful and classic live together.

Mirrioring the home's ceilings, the pergola is also constructed from redwood.

Daniela and Francisco are a psychologist and engineer by day (respectively), but they’d almost always rather be outdoors. They’re avid hikers and passionate about sustainability, so when they had the chance to build an off-the-grid vacation home on a rustic lakeside patch of land in Southern Chile, they jumped on it.

The house is completely off grid. It operates on solar panels, wood-fire heat and water from the lake; there’s even a compost sewage system.

“As much as it’s practical, it’s also a very good-looking thing: a sculpture piece. I call it the jewel on the side,” says Noguera of the unique skylight here.
