The curtains in the living room can be pulled back to reveal a projector screen for movie nights.
While some renters dream of hardwood flooring, Charly carpeted over the floor in his bedroom for a cozier look and feel.
While Charly has loved Italian art and culture for his whole life, he visited Italy for the first time around three years ago.
Charly started by painting a single red wall. Then he added a second, and a third, until the entire living room was crisp and crimson.
Charly made the dresser in his bedroom himself out of MDF boards.
The red paint Charly chose for his flat lends warmth and coziness to the upper story—even on the grayest days.
“I’m getting more into combining art and furniture,” Charly says. “At the moment, I’m not comfortable with buying a €4,000 painting—I’m more into trying to understand how forms and materials work.”
The glass-walled home reflects the colors of the sunset at dusk.
This wooden deck at the back of the house, facing the Pacific Ocean, is a perfect spot for sunset aperitifs.
One of the south-facing bedrooms overlooks the pool deck and surrounding greenery. In total, the home has three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The traditional wooden hot tub in this interior patio is from El Tonel. Whitewashed pine slats line the walls.
“The material palette is the same for the entire house,” says architect Daniel Iragüen, pointing out the porcelain tile floors, laminated pine ceilings, and whitewashed pine slats that form the interior walls.
The central nave of the house is flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows, with ocean views to the west, and forest views to the east.
Only the north-facing side of the house, seen here, has sections with opaque timber walls to protect the primary suite (and a mud room) from the bright southern hemisphere rays. Behind the glass doors is an interior patio outfitted with a woodburning parrilla.
This glass-walled, timber-framed house in the seaside town of Algarrobo, Chile, was designed by Iragüen Viñuela Arquitectos for a retired couple who wanted to be near the ocean but not far from Santiago, where many family members live.
