The contrasting style of the original home and the 70s-era addition come together in this space, now with white oak wall paneling and a twenty-foot-long, seven-foot-wide custom sofa designed by Office of Tangible Space. The painting is by Kathan Zerzan.

Two hours north of New York City, an unusual barn emerges from a hill just off a country road. Its black siding and bright-red window frames hint at the imaginative playground inside. This space, with its rope-railed catwalk and indoor tent, is just one element of the multifaceted getaway architecture and design firm BarlisWedlick Architects designed for fund manager Ian Hague.

Canyon Barn

Blue velvet drapery separates the dining room from the living area, where there are leather-and-wood lounge chairs by Tessa Furniture and a floor lamp from Artemide.

In the listening room, which is carpeted and lined in drapes for soundproofing, custom floor cushions by Luna/Oks invite lounging. “I was looking for sophistication without pretension,” says Marcos of the project.

In the living room, a modular sofa from Helmut joins a Tori stool made of sand-cast aluminum and an Orno wood chair, both by Ries.

The box, lacquered in a deep green, works with warm golds and violets and brown tones found elsewhere in the apartment to play off the cool concrete ceiling and wall. Contrasting materials and colors and carefully crafted details make a home that is at once cool and cozy.
