“The most important thing was to bring a sense of authenticity to the project, like it really couldn’t exist anywhere else or for anyone else,” says architect Jodi Batay-Csorba.

Low-VOC, zero-formaldehyde white plywood cabinets, a subway-tile backsplash, and stone counters run through the kitchen.

Artist Cori Creed stands in the kitchen of the vacation home in rural British Columbia that she and her husband, Craig Cameron, built with their friend and architect, Kevin Vallely. Cori made the ceramic dinnerware and pendants, while Craig built the kitchen island and installed the plywood ceiling with the help of his stepfather.

"The galley-style kitchen on the south boundary has a slim footprint compared to the rest of the house, and allows for north-facing windows almost measuring 16 feet in height," says Naughtin. "The windows can be opened to draw warm air up and out of the space."

The kitchen is located behind the dining space and features a concrete counter—a reference to the industrial-style architecture.

The kitchen bench extends to create a breakfast bar for casual dining.

The updated kitchen pairs Heath tiles with a La Cornue range. A Bluff City pendant by Roll & Hill hangs above the central island, which is capped by Porcelanosa countertops. The Vig bar stools are by BoConcept.

The boat’s cabin is split into two distinct areas—the kitchen and the dining area/bedroom.

“Drinking water comes from a 20-liter bottle, and can be delivered to the tap with a foot-operated pump, so no electricity is required,” Bene says. The bottle can sustain two people for three days.

Alcoves and open shelving in the kitchen allow dishware and other accessories to be on display.

Triangular shelves make use of a corner in the open kitchen and dining space.

All new materials and fixtures were selected to work harmoniously with the structure’s historic character.

A pendant light in the kitchen is a basic light socket combined with an LED Edison bulb.
