A home in rural Michigan embodies the findings from Marvin’s Shining a Light on Happiness and Well-Being study. “Hilltop Farm is a special project, and I love how the homeowners have integrated Essential casement windows and doors into the home,” says Christine Marvin, chief marketing and experience officer at Marvin. “Clearly the connection to the land, the stunning rural surroundings, inspired the homeowners to purchase the farm.”

Wherever possible, Shively looked to work with local craftsmen. For example, all of the cabinetry was made by Lambright Woodworking, an Amish company in Indiana, and custom doors and trim were made by Jarzab Construction, a team of local Polish carpenters.

The front of the bodega was updated with an oversize glass entry door and expansive windows but otherwise “stayed pretty much the same,” says Contreras. In the dining area, a bench from CB2 sits alongside a former display table from a local boutique. Sliders open to a patio with a 12-foot-long fireplace designed by Kim. The swivel chair and pendant light are both from West Elm while the sofa is from Restoration Hardware.

At 1,928 square foot, the Treehouse Residence is the largest of the four homes. The top floor is perched above the 3D-printed ground floor, creating an awning that protects the outdoor patio. A 3D-printed wall juts out from the main residence, offering privacy from the street.
