Before: The skylight was doubled in size to bring in more natural light.

The team added a new deck and larger windows and doors to the garden level unit.

The fireplaces juxtapose ornamental wood and a modern concrete finish on the firebox surround.

In the dining room, Guillerme et Chambron armchairs from Maison Gerard surround a CB2 table. The ceiling light is by Lambert & Fils. In the kitchen, rich blue cabinetry with wood details from GD Arredamenti is topped with a Caesarstone “Aire Concrete” counter. The gold artwork is by Joyce Billet.

An enlarged skylight in the upstairs hall sheds light on the rebuilt staircase.

“The contractors did an amazing job restoring the old details, removing several layers of paint that was added over time, so they could be repainted in the best way,” says Ménage.

Ménage balanced the historic ornament with modern interventions, like the rebuilt wood staircase and glass handrail.

The two hallways give the first floor an easy, circular flow. The salvaged seahorse pulls are on the kitchen cabinet to the left.

The powder room has the aqua marine sink salvaged from the house’s previous iteration, paired with a Hang 1 Drop Mirror from Blu Dot and a vintage sconce.

The couple found the carved vestibule doors at Demolition Depot. They were salvaged from a row house from the same time period as this one. The ceiling light is a family heirloom.

Opening the connection between the basement and the main floor, Plum Projects made the staircase the center of the home. Polished concrete floors anchor the space.

The renovated kitchen is open, airy, and connected to the rest of the main level. Plum Projects used Bedrosians Magnifica Luxe polished white porcelain for the island, countertops, and backsplash. The black upper cabinets are made from Richlite: a durable, sustainable material made from recycled paper.

The office enclosure is made from white oak, with slats crafted in Plum Projects' studio workshop.

The open layout brings breathing room to the new dining area. To the right is the home's central opening, built around a set of custom stairs.

White oak floors, new windows, and a honed Brazilian Soapstone fireplace are a modern refresh.

A focus on materiality and minimal lines takes inspired from Japanese architecture.

A 1919 Brooklyn Daily Eagle article praised “Calderville” for its trees and the “attractiveness” they bring: “By next spring it is expected that practically every house in the ‘ville’ will have a tree of its own.

The kitchen was expanded in the remodel, and outfitted in Ikea cabinets with Semihandmade fronts painted sage green and CB2 half moon pulls. The counters are Corian Snow Flurry, and the new patio door is aluminum clad wood from Jeld Wen. A panel ready Fisher Paykel refrigerator is to the right of the stove.
