The Lofthouse is built one of the many hills separating it from the couple’s main residence. "Excavation was a challenge, as we wanted to maintain as much of the existing landscape as possible, but needed to clear out trees for the foundation," says Tarah.

Fala designed the house’s custom oversize door pulls, as well as the hallway ceiling lights, which are made from the same steel pipe as the main stair’s handrail.

Vertical black-and-white stripes on the pantry doors help disguise how slim the house is, even at its tightest.

A Rejuvenation sconce and a Pfeifer Studio stool accent the reading nook built into the hallway.

In the main bedroom, Lostine bedside tables with Mantis sconces from Design Within Reach flank a bed from Room & Board. The vintage rug was sourced from Portland’s Kat + Maouche, and the wallpaper is by Galbraith & Paul.

Hay outdoor furniture sits underneath the steel pergola.

On the front facade, ground-faced concrete blocks contrast with cumaru wood tongue-and-groove siding.
