The ultra-flexible space easily transforms into a bedroom and work area, thanks to a clever wall system designed by the Modern Granny Flat team.

For the kitchen, Eva says, “blue always felt right. I think white kitchens feel a little sterile.”

The ADU is sited behind the home of two T+E+A+M members, architectural designer Adam Fure and architect Ellie Abrons.

“We’ve tried to create a space that feels calm, with warm lighting, soft textures, natural wood pieces, and beach treasures collected from our trips,” says Leah. The living room features a cozy and durable Movie Night Sectional from Sundays, Zero Waste Coffee Table from Avocado, and handcrafted shelving unit by local carpenter Kaleb Redden—putting family mementos and found objects on display.

The family chose Glidden’s Velvet Slipper as an accent color for the wood storage reading seat, custom built but Geoffrey and the family. They matched a shade of purple in Elli Pop’s 'A Forest-Into the Trees' wallpaper, installed on the adjacent wall. The fireplace is a Stuv 21 with a hand-built tile surround. The Duncan Phyfe sofa was found on Ebay.

A Japanese-style wet room is tiled floor-to-ceiling, and features a seat in the corner for a spa-shower experience.

A Seattle couple built their own backyard house with a city-sponsored design—and then rented out their old home on the property to friends.

The other side of the corrugated aluminum–wrapped home stands on yellow piles. At the center, a pair of trees rises through an opening.

Hut has are several new Rööm projects underway, including work in Ashland, Oregon and Marin County, California. The Ashland project will be sent as a full flatpack and assembled on-site.

With access to tons of green space and a 35-minute commute to NYC, this 1970s residence offers the best of both worlds.

The living room provides a cozy gathering place anchored by a vintage fireplace from Urban Americana and Cle Tile backsplash. A circular Weave Rug pulls the space together.

In the kitchen and dining area, the Akoya pendant by Rich Brilliant Willing hangs over a Bend Goods Bistro Table; the Hoist Sconce over the Signature Hardware kitchen sink and faucet is also by RBW. A Material Kitchen cookware set and Kinto coffee set outfits the kitchen, along with Neenineen ceramics and Snowe glassware. A SMEG fridge adds a retro touch.

Naude and Brown took notes from legendary designers Luis Barragán, Jacques Grange, and Terence Conran for Casa Mami. Lounge chairs and the Confetti table from LAUN adorn the entry.

Brown and Naude worked with David Card of Card Construction to execute their vision.
