Located on a picturesque lakefront setting in the Berkshire town of Becket, Massachusetts, this 2,567 square-foot building has been revamped into an ideal holiday home for a Boston couple and their friends and family.

Originally built in the 1980s, the home was outdated with wall-to-wall carpeting, small living areas, dark wood paneling, and heating and electrical issues. Local firm Jess Cooney Interiors led the nine-month renovation of the entire house—including the master loft, living areas, basement rooms, and an extensive kitchen remodel.

Jess Cooney Interiors left the original shingle-wrapped shell and windows intact, and proceeded to strip away and reconfigure the interior to maximize space. The renovation takes advantage of the home’s self-supporting domed structure, which provides column-free interiors with tall ceilings. Light-filled open spaces for family gatherings balance with private spaces for friends and family to stay—all under one simple roof.

Lounging, cooking, and dining spaces are located on the main level, where vaulted ceilings and lots of windows provide a bright area for entertaining. The kitchen is the star of the show, blending bamboo accents with gray cabinets and quartz countertops. The smart reconfiguration created a gourmet kitchen with plenty of prep space, high-end appliances, and a walk-in pantry.

Throughout the home, a soft color palette of blues, rust tones, and creams combines the modern lines of the space with the rustic feel of the Berkshire setting. A wide-plank wood floor extends throughout, further emphasizing the open concept of the space.

The home’s bathrooms incorporate pops of color with fun tile work and hues of forest green, teal, and oyster.

Upstairs, a cool open area contains the master suite, complete with a dressing room and serene bath retreat. An open metal railing, a hexagonal skylight, and a side window brightly illuminate the lofted space. At the center of the plan, a spiral staircase with new treads connects all three levels of the light-filled domed space.
