For a unique Agatha Christie touch, many rooms come complete with a vault, safely tucked behind a vintage picture or wall hanging.

Like many of the decorative items at Porches, lamps are often sourced via eBay and local flea markets. Moon Shine Lamps and Shades Out of Spring Branch, Texas, designed many of the shades.

Upstairs, what Santos calls a “very, very raw” screen porch stood off the master bedroom; the couple enclosed it to accommodate a seating area overlooking an interior courtyard.

Antonio refers to this painting, named Cadires (which means "chairs" in Catalan), as accidental art. The serendipitous markings resulted from the board being under a chair he was painting. "It’s almost like a memory for me; a memory of the process of making the chairs," he says.

Deep yellows can warm up any space. PPG Pittsburgh Paints' Wright Mustard (FLLW321) and Glidden’s Wheat Stalk (30YY 52/515) are two paint colors that complement contemporary midcentury-inspired interiors.

Each home that Wright designed was unique to its circumstances, and the Penfield House was no exception. Set on 30 acres in Lake County, Ohio, the 1950 home has taller ceilings and an elongated profile to accommodate the client Louis Penfield—who was six foot eight.

In the living room, Fred sits beneath Tom Wesselmann’s Claire’s Valentine Banner, from 1973. A George Nelson Yellow Marshmallow sofa from 1956 joins a Darrell Landrum coffee table, also from the 1950s, and a pair of Verner Panton Cone chairs.

The backyard is one of this home’s best features. With a lot that nearly equals the square footage of the home itself, there was plenty of room to play with landscaping.

Completed in May 2018, the Crossfield Street House is the residence of architect Jonathan Pile, his wife Katherine, and their five-year-old son.

The mountain abode is nestled on a quiet street a mere 10 minutes from the slopes, and it shares its lot with a gathering of large trees. The house also comfortably accommodates up to 10 people, so it's perfect for hosting friends and their families.

A vintage table and chairs ground the dining room, which features art by Chaz Bear (also known as Chazwick Bundick).

A custom-designed console fits the wall perfectly and creates a spot to drop keys and mail, or check appearances before going out the door.

Poteet describes the space as “unbearably hot” before he used spray-foam insulation between the exterior walls and the interior bamboo. “Now it’s the equivalent of a steel ice chest,” he says.

Reclaimed bricks and a pivoting, weathered steel door speak to the industrial flavor and salvaged materials found throughout this office renovation by architecture studio Linehouse. The result is a design that is both dramatic in form and texture, but subtle in its natural palette.

The original garage had been previously converted into a home office space. However, with the addition of wood ceilings, and sliding doors leading out to the garden it was transformed into a yoga studio for the homeowner where she now teaches and practices daily.

Rock stands in the doorway to the boys’ bathroom, which is lined with semi-gloss Modern Dimensions tiles from Daltile. “We wanted it to be playful,” Hufft says, “so we chose each color and laid out the tile distribution in Photoshop.”

They gutted the bathroom on the second floor—which used to be filled with everything pink—and removed the existing linen closet in order to extend the vanity to fit two sinks.
