“The house is kind of crooked, with rough floors, and no fancy finishes—but it has lots of personality,” says architect Francisco Mesquita Moura.

The custom dining table—which was made by a local artisan—is located in front of west-facing windows that frame the sunset in the evenings. The table can be easily moved inside or out depending on the weather.

The tiles that can be glimpsed in the hallway are by Patricia Urquiola for Mutina, and have been used to clad the bathroom. They extend out into the hallway to mark the entrance.

The ground floor material palette features polished concrete floors and lime washed walls.

In the corner, a floating desk mimics the curve above, while a lightwell and pendant draw the eye up.

The enormous picture window in the living room frames spectacular views over the water, allowing the family to feel immersed in nature even in the wildest of weather.

At night, light coming through the wall of original steel-framed windows illuminates the pool area.

The homeowners have come to appreciate as its own space the hallway connecting the main house with the annex .

With walls of glass on two sides, being in the breakfast nook feels almost like being outside.

"Something really important to us is the slab in the front and the back,
