John and Ciera, with their dogs Stanley and Rosie, moved into their Seattle home in 2020. They converted an existing shed into a 180-square-foot flex space when they needed more square footage. The wood deck is by Kebony, and the CB2 chairs surround a table from Webstaurant Store.

"The forest outside our windows brings us joy from the moment we wake up in the morning," says Jonah, "while we watch the hawks and birds and drink our coffee to the period of dusk when the deer pass through on their evening foraging and the fox come out of hiding."

The circulation core becomes both a passage to the bathing courtyard and a library with custom millwork, built-in shelving, and site-specific art.

With plenty of storage and pretty details like the scalloped pantry doors and oversized pendant light by Lana Launay, the new kitchen blends practicality with whimsy.

The glass walls allow the home office to become completely immersed in its surroundings. “Thanks to the glass panels and panoramic views, you have all the space on the outside that you can see from the inside,” says Kristi Kivilaid of ÖÖD House.

The team at ÖÖD House wanted to create an affordable and sleek home office that could be shipped worldwide. They can fit three offices into one 40-foot-long container.

Architect Russell Hollingsworth described his work as “crafting spaces that echo the land and invite peaceful living.”

In addition to buildings like 31 Governors Road, the Piccaluga also designed furniture.

A Samsung Frame TV blends in with other artwork collected by the homeowners.

“They gave us so much storage there are still empty cabinets,” says Kirsten.

Using off-the-shelf materials, including standard plywood and polycarbonate panels, helped streamline construction, even if it posed design challenges. “There were a lot of complexities that made it interesting,” says architect Tony Salas. “It was a big ask for a tiny project.”

The new home quotes the forms and materials of the neighborhood, but remixes them in a more contemporary combination.
