Perched high in the Santa Monica Mountains, this modern hillside home by Sant Architects consists of a three bedroom main residence and adjacent studio. Floor-to-ceiling windows and dramatic sliding doors offer shifting perspectives of the sublime landscape and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

Hunter used prefabricated dowel laminated timber panels by StructureCraft for the ceiling and floor, which he left exposed, and the bar ledge is made from black-painted steel. The view looks straight to Mount Alpha.

"We wanted Brininstool + Lynch to honor the original intent while transforming it into an even better version of itself," says the client. "Clean it up, balance it out, modernize the systems, create more views out to the landscape, and introduce one big, new element: A gorgeous whole-house terrazzo floor, to pull it all together."

When the doors are open, the large dining deck seems a part of the kitchen, making it easy to cook and entertain at the same time.

Chicago–based Eifler & Associates Architects leads a painstaking renovation of the rarely published home located in Barrington Hills, Illinois—overseeing everything from a sagging roof to a Wright-designed dining room table.

Built in 1949, Byrdview is one of four residential homes designed by the famed midcentury architect William Pereira, known for his futuristic designs that include the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco.

As you approach the Hilltop House from the covered breezeway that adjoins the garage, it is possible to see through the carefully placed windows to the greenery on the home’s other side.

Klopf Architecture, Arterra Landscape Architects, and Flegels Construction joined forces to refurbish this Palo Alto Eichler. Standout features include a fully opening glass wall, an outdoor living area with a kitchen and fire pit, and furniture by Kayu and Primary Pouf.

Risa Boyer Architecture guided the whole house remodel of this 1955 Portland home. Lillyvilla Gardens executed a new landscape plan for the property, including this updated entry sequence, while Boyer added more glass to suit the midcentury façade.
