“We bought the land not knowing what we could build or where. It’s off by itself and pretty isolated,” says Jeff.

The main kitchen is warmed by wood finishes that are in visual dialogue with the red cedar siding on the home’s exterior.

“My favorite thing about this home is how there are a number of complexions to the design, with each side of the home responding to a different set of conditions,” says architect Brett Farrow.

Western Red Cedar siding envelopes the home. This highly durable material is an ideal choice for weathering the coastal conditions.

The spacious and calming guest suite is set apart from the main living quarters and has a full private kitchen.

A neutral interior palette offsets the lush foliage visible from the home’s many windows.

In the evening, the slats reveal a glow from within, giving the project its name, Lantern Studio.

We’ve gotten great feedback about the structure from the community. We stepped it down and set it back, so it became more interesting than aggressive,” Flavin further explains.

The screen stops short of the frame’s end. “We wanted to peel it back, so you could see the steel beneath,” says Flavin.
