“As a lover and collector of old (old trucks, old clothes, old homes…) I know all too well that they sometimes take extra effort to take care of,” says Leanne. “While I don't always like to modernize a space—I make a living out of trying not to, in fact, always keeping what I can in a home—modernizing some things is a must.”

The Fords gave the walls of the basement studio a fresh coat of crisp white paint that beautifully reflects the sunlight that streams in through casement windows.

Yuan relocated the utility functions to a peripheral area of the house and created a breakfast niche that overlooks the sunken den. It has sconces by L’aviva Home, a Sun At Six table, and upholstery by Johanna Gullichsen. The artwork is by Erin Lynn Welsh.
