Jody’s favorite spot is outside on the deck. “I spend most of my time there. We’ve got two braais, and I braai just about every night,” he says, using the Afrikaans word for barbecue. “It’s not about the food for me,” he adds, “It’s about standing around the fire.” The platform sofas were designed by Scott, the dining table is by James Mudge Furniture Studio, and the Hee lounge and dining chairs are by Hay.

When a solo adventurer was ready for life on the open road with her cat and dog in tow, she turned to Innovative Spaces to help source, design, and build out her new home on wheels. Through their network of Airstream pickers, the mobile home design-build firm found a 1973 Airstream Tradewind.

"My goal was to carry on the client’s family legacy by creating a very special place that took inspiration from the landscape,” explains architect Tom Kundig.

With a last minute deadline, architect Burton Baldridge transformed a decaying trailer into a modern green home for Stubb's, an Austin, Texas club. Baldridge teamed up with Branson Fustes of Pilgrim Building Company to work on the interiors and building custom furniture, such as a bar on one end.

The dining area converts into a double bed. Natalie Crittenden at Haversack Leather did all the upholstery.

BORIEN Studio saved and replated all of the original badges in brass for a striking contrast against the silver aluminum.

A redwood and teak folding rocking chair and loveseat are strapped to the back of Airstream with a bridle created by leatherworker Remco at Vanderhyde Toronto.

Based out of Sun Valley, Idaho, the owners of Traverse Design + Build took on a personal project, renovating a 1971 Airstream Overland.

One of the three bedrooms on the top floor features a skylight ladder for easy stargazing.

Uruguay’s beach towns dot the Atlantic coast northeast of the capital, Montevideo, becoming less crowded and developed the farther up you go. The second floor of Sticotti’s house floats above its neighbors to take in views of the ocean a couple of blocks away. It’s capped by a roof deck that the architect says is “great for watching fireworks.”

“We pulled apart one volume and staggered it along the buildable area of the property,” says architect Matthew Ahlberg of Portland firm Barrett Made. The home is clad in unfinished cedar, meant to weather over time.

The apartment's main living room features original parquet floors and a feature wall painted in an ultramarine blue—the color having been matched to Le Corbusier’s original palette. A 1962 Arco lamp by the Castiglioni brothers drapes over the space.
