The kitchen seamlessly connects the dining area to the living room.

“Seeing the Irish Green wall in the beginning was very shocking,” admits architect Dan Brunn. “That shock is a positive thing—it completely changes the way the room invites you into the space. Before, it was a white canvas, now the green wall pulls your eye to the living green wall.”

"The forest outside our windows brings us joy from the moment we wake up in the morning," says Jonah, "while we watch the hawks and birds and drink our coffee to the period of dusk when the deer pass through on their evening foraging and the fox come out of hiding."

Williamson and Hua aimed for an indoor-outdoor experience that could be enjoyed day and night.

Concrete and travertine slabs were installed on the exterior, alongside an ipe deck with mahogany railings.

Mudroom cabinetry creates consistency with the rest of the house.

The design team restored the cork floors. The island lights are Sven Middleboe for Nordisk and are original to the house. The counters are Ceppo Di Gre Marble and the door to the restored pantry is painted Tarrytown Green by Benjamin Moore, and given a porthole window with reeded glass.

The fireplace now has a tile-covered hearth—the tile is La Pietra Compattata Cromie Bianco—that people can sit on.

Sand and cement walls frame a meditative pond. “I always work with water. It’s my favorite material,” says Miguel. “It’s fresh, it reflects, it’s like creating a complementary architecture to the building.”

A custom concrete planter is now home to a 70-year-old olive tree. The couple reconfigured the front porch to allow for a straight path between the front door and the driveway for better circulation.

The house that stood on the lot before was the same square footage as just one townhome, but Chris was able to maximize the amount of usable outdoor space by adding backyards and a garden between his and Miranda’s unit and the street.
