Most of the artwork that adorns the walls is also by Mike and Jewlsy. The framed palm fronds above the credenza, for example, are inscribed with the original deeds to Jewlsy's family home in Kerala, India, and are approximately 300 years old.

To accommodate an island in the kitchen, they moved an interior wall. “It was the only wall that was relocated,” says Scott.

Timothy, a photographer, keeps his negatives and prints organized in archival boxes, and uses a darkroom offsite. The couple built the desk using three custom-made legs and a baltic birch top. They also built the shiplap door.

The second-floor hallway bathroom is the largest in the house. “That was more of our dream bathroom,” the clients say. “The fixtures are very historic looking, and felt true to the house.”

“We just wanted to embrace color,” the clients say about the top-floor guest room, painted Benjamin Moore’s Chippendale Rose. “We thought we’d make it fun; it’s a dusty, adult pink. We wanted to make it monochromatic, and we’re glad we did.”

The first floor is constantly evolving, but ultimately, the homeowners want it to feel layered and warm—ideal for family time and evening relaxation.

Dark wood details, cream walls and a neutral palette makes for a relaxed parlor space. All of the furnishings are intended to be hard-wearing and comfortable.

The clients embraced the home’s existing wood trim, and kept the stone fireplace as is—soot and all. “We use it so frequently, so we don’t clean it all the time,” they say. “At some point you just embrace it—we want the house to feel lived in.”

To keep it from looking “too much like a cabin,” the homeowners chose a wall of white cabinets for the opposing wall.

The kitchen walls are painted a crisp white. Doorways with original detailing lead to the adjoining garden-level dining space.

A new powder room replaces a shallow closet that stood beside the dining room. The clients, who have two cats, selected whimsical wallpaper for the small space.

Colorful tile lines the walls and glass shower in the bathroom located on the lower level. A workout area and laundry room await down the hall.
