The Juniper room's centerpiece boulder sits just behind the open shower. "We built this little elevated bathroom that allows you to get the full effect of the views while in the shower," notes Rich.

"The lights have to be turned off by 9:30," says Rich. "It's naturally pitch black out there, it's stunning. During a full moon the whole desert is lit up and it's just incredible."

"We went for as many windows as we could," notes Rich, "because the surroundings are so beautiful. And what we did was try to maximize the amount of light and glass; we pushed it basically as far as we could push it without allowing the house to fall down."

"Since we're completely off grid we operate off of hauled water, so we have three 1,800 gallon tanks that get filled up every other week. But for those same reasons, people off the grid don't really have pools because they're hard to maintain, but we did it anyway."

While once not much of a looker, the redone property now boasts a sauna, among other luxurious amenities.

Initially a broken down home, the property caught the attention of Rich and Rezeta thanks to its sprawling views and acres of untouched, uninhabited land.

Jade built a bridge out of some salvaged pieces of wood from elsewhere in the home. It used every board they had. But when her son ran over the little bridge for the first time, “I realized I did alllll this work for that moment. And I’d do it all over again.”

Ikea cabinets act as storage, but also the base of a window seat with a custom cushion.

Artist Lisa Bartelson is one of Jade's clients, and traded her these oversized works in exchange for some design work.

LED lights are hidden behind ceiling joists. Jade snagged some Design Within Reach Theatre sofas on Craigslist for $200 and had them reupholstered.

Chairs are from Bend Goods. Table legs from Tip Toe are used on the kitchen table and the console table in the TV room.

“I’m the queen of Ikea cabinets,” laughs Jade. She commissioned custom birch-veneer plywood for the doors from L.A.’s Anderson Plywood. While she was budget-conscious in many ways, she also is willing to splurge where it counts. “Hardware is where I spend money. That’s where people touch and feel it,” she says. “It’s important to me that it feels significant.” Here, pulls and knobs come from Mockett. The countertop is a man-made resin from Arizona Tiles in La Quinta.

The front yard was transformed from a dirt patch into a perfectly landscaped dessert garden.

Fresh stucco and white paint reinvigorated the exterior.
