Open shelving allows the couple to display favorite pots like objets d'art and gives them easy access when cooking. The large pantry features glass doors and has space for all their ingredients.

The kitchen features oak joinery and a worktop crafted from a rare, green-veined marble with bullnose edges. “Every time I see the kitchen, I’m glad that we went for that stone,” says homeowner Leila D'Angelo. “It’s just so unique.”

Bespoke oak joinery in the entrance offers a practical zone with a built-in bench seat, pegs for coats and bags, shelving, and concealed storage for shoes and everyday clutter.

Repurposed Douglas fir (leftovers from concrete formwork from the house build) was used on the ceiling, with a Velux skylight. The custom Douglas Fir bookshelf was designed and fabricated by Kevin, with a desktop made from salvaged pine by Vintage Mill Werks and a Hay stool.

Kevin and Katie enjoy happy hour on their new covered patio. The plantings were inspired by the garden in Mexico where they got married. During the pandemic, "We were like, I want to go on vacation, but we can't, so let's just make our backyard a vacation,

Black Ikea cabinets and a leather honed black quartz countertop convey a moody vibe.

The vintage mid-century modern chair is from the Alameda Flea Market, and the concrete flooring has a hard-trowel natural finish.

The sash-style windows are from Sierra Pacific, with a ‘Paramount’ sofa and ottoman by Blu Dot tucked underneath.

The custom natural oak vanity was fabricated by Greenpiece Furniture, with a quartz countertop in ‘Serena Gold’ by Vadara. The freestanding tub is by Kohler.

A custom bookcase designed and fabricated by Kevin with base cabinet fronts from Semihandmade separates the playroom from a bedroom, currently set up as Poppy's nursey.

The cabinets are IKEA frames with 'BASIS Natural Oak’ fronts by Reform.

The dropped ceiling is old-growth fir that was discovered under plaster during the demolition phase of the project, and was repurposed for interior finishes. The custom island prep table is by Vintage Mill Werks, with Hay stools.

The European white oak flooring is ‘Crystal Thunder’ by Riva Floors.

Now, the main kitchen opens to the rear deck via large sliding glass doors, and the dining room is in the former kitchen space.

The loft extension is arranged over two levels, with the form housing the study and terrace, and the upper front section the primary bedroom and en suite.
