This 1962 Eichler home designed by A. Quincy Jones and Frederick Emmons is in the Fairhaven tract in Orange, California.

A pathway winds between a pair of Japanese maples and a myrtle tree that dates to the home’s original construction. The floor-to-ceiling windows and sliders are by Fleetwood.

Both the bathroom and kitchen feature Zia Tile, with the brand's Pomelo Cement Tile used as the backsplash pictured above.

Much of the furniture is custom-made. The filing cabinet sectional was inspired by a similar piece in artist Heather Day's San Francisco apartment, featured by Dwell in 2020.

Floor-to-ceiling glazing and a linear skylight help welcome the landscape within the cabin’s small footprint.

In the dining room, a Lambert et Fils chandelier hangs above a black-stained, live-edge ash table.

In the primary bedroom, the custom bed is joined by a side table from Dims and a pendant by Norm Architects for Menu.

Adding storage under the new stair maximizes the kitchen's footprint. Hemlock wood on the stair was stained to complement the casework. The faucet is from Brizo and the green backsplash tile is Heath.

The kitchen features custom-lacquered cabinets with white oak handles and, in lieu of upper cabinets, a wall niche to display dishes.

David likes to cook and entertain so the architects designed a full-scale kitchen with Forbo Marmoleum flooring, white oak cabinets, ceramic tile backsplash, and Richlite counters.

Inside, find a rustic vibe complemented by brightly hued furniture and vintage ephemera. Amenities include a rooftop hot tub, coffee and hot chocolate bar, and places to store ski gear.

The combined kitchen and dining room, featuring two pieces of family-heirloom furniture, feel spacious thanks to a vaulted ceiling; it and the walls are clad in Douglas fir.

Now, a walk-in shower and soaking tub are tucked under the roof line.
