Austin and Kotono Watanabe flew from vacation back to Minneapolis with the Noguchi lantern from Ozeki, a manufacturer in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan near Kotono’s hometown of Ibigawa, as a carry-on.

One renovation request, homeowner Isaac Hase says, “was having a place to drop your shoes.” At the mudroom end of a run of kitchen cabinets, you’ll find another feature the couple asked for. “We wanted to have a dedicated, visible place for our little stash of cookbooks,” Karoline says.

Conveniently located in their backyard, the office allows the couple to run their practice while staying close to their kids.

"The most comfortable and pleasant place in the house is the library nook, where you can lie down to read a book, have a coffee, or take a nap with the light and warmth of the sun coming through the window," says MAPA.

The primary bedroom is encased with floor-to-ceiling glazing and opens to another large terrace.

A plush green sectional adds a punchy splash of color to the room's neutral palette. The exposed structural beams extend past the glazing, strengthening the home's outdoor connection.

Floor-to-ceiling glass wraps around the living area, which offers direct access to the rear terrace.

The couple's back patio and yard are a seamless extension of their indoor living spaces thanks to thoughtful fenestration.

Windows stretch from the counter to the ceiling to maximize the view. The difference in ceiling height gives the kitchen a cozier feel.
