The new slat wall provides a sense of enclosure for the living room, without separating it from the other rooms. An Article sofa is joined by Burke Decor chairs and a coffee table from 1st Dibs. The credenza is by Naan Furniture, based in Valencia, Spain, and also available on Etsy. The wall sconces are custom from Michelle Boudreau Design.

The material palette was investigated early on, along with a variety of layout options. The end product reflected both the homeowner’s style and the unique character of the home.

Azin redesigned the staircase for better flow, tucking storage beneath and running the counter into the stair tread. The V-shaped cabling is based on a pattern from the ’60s, says Azin.

In the main bath, Arto tile from Tempest Tileworks in turquoise was combined with Benjamin Moore paint in the color Boca Raton.

Sherry, Anthony, and their children, Zuri and Mateo, make the most of the kitchen and dining area in their new home. Harbour chairs by Menu surround a Tulip table by Eero Saarinen for Knoll. The A-Beam pendant is from Hand&Eye, and the ceramics are by Gopi Shah. Appliances include a Fisher & Paykel stove and a wine cooler from KitchenAid.

The main bathroom, with a prominently placed soaking tub, is a restorative haven within the home. "My favorite part [of the home] is the bathtub, which has a clerestory window of the downtown skyline, and another window that looks out to see the Hollywood sign in the distance," shares Melanie. The luminous space features ceramic floor tile from Ceramic Technics in Ecco Mineral Stone 2.0, Wilsonart quartz counters in Rio Upano, and a white LED sconce by StudioM. The white oak vanity was custom designed by OPEN For Humans.

The kitchen peninsula, perfect for casual dining, is one of four designated eating spaces in the home, along with the formal dining room, back deck, and roof deck. Getting creative in lockdown, "we pretended they were different restaurants or cafés and would use each for different meals and coffee breaks throughout the day," says Melanie.

In the foyer, an accent wall covered in Farrow & Ball Helleborus wallpaper sets the tone for the home’s retro-meets-contemporary aesthetic.

A spacious guesthouse with separate entry is located on the lower level.

Now, built-in sofas line the perimeter of the room and utilize the room’s shape better.

Ann Sacks terrazzo tile covers the floor and backsplash. The sinks were fabricated by a local artisan, Cement Elegance.

A polished chrome faucet from Kohler’s Purist collection enhances the kitchen. Walls and ceilings are made of drywall and painted brilliant hues that complement the home's industrial exterior.

The custom island also features a cut-out shelf.

“We came up with the idea of making it feel like almost a cave or a tunnel,” says Greenwald. The blackened steel shelving stores cookbooks close to hand, and also disguises a support column.

The powder room is a retreat from the main living areas. The firm set off the Victorian ash storage and mirror unit by surrounding it with black hexagon tile. A "sky tunnel" in the ceiling floods the room with natural light.
