Guest bath, view north to woods, the window in the bath opens to extend the feeling of an outdoor experience

Because Alside Homes were so long, they required two lots to build on. Dr. Frost purchased a third lot to ensure privacy, providing the current homeowners plenty of room to add a pool.

The back patio and fire-pit area are central entertaining spaces. When the weather is nice, homeowner Joan and Ken wheel their dining room table outside for parties and dinners with friends. The fire pit was built using a steel cut-off from a natural gas tank.

There were always plans to include a bathtub in the primary bedroom, but it wasn't always clear where—or how.

“Where we let loose was on the window,” Matt says. “It’s an aluminium window frame, which is bushfire compliant and easy to install, but the way that we detailed it was about hiding the frame so that the eye is drawn into the space.”

The log cabins were constructed by a specialist company, and another builder helped with the interior walls. Jussi-Pekka and his father did all the other building and landscaping work, apart from the electrical and plumbing—often working 12-hour days.

In addition to the condo, the 12-unit community has a private pool.

The bathroom maintains the calm, nature-inspired color palette with subtle hues like beige, a taupe-y green, and wood. Like other spaces, natural light is abundant thanks to a window.

“I envision people writing their books, music, refuelling their creative flow,” says Castillero. He should know about its energizing power more than anyone, really: it brought him back to his love of architecture, after all. “It’s truly my new happy place.”
