Dimensional tile lines the walls and the glass enclosure wraps the shower bench. A new skylight brings in natural light to the room, as it doesn’t have an exterior wall.
A 1000xBetter removed the wrought iron and striped awning, and covered the façade in wood, leaving the distinct midcentury elements intact.
“We sandblasted, I don't know how many layers of paint off the ceiling, but we sandblasted it, and it turned out beautifully,” says Maziarski. “And then we just sealed in its natural color.”
Before: The sliding door in the living room led to the side yard and driveway, which wasn’t as nice as the backyard.
In the bedroom, a vintage Thonet chair sits with a World Market table in front of the new window. Alex added red Shoji-style doors to the closets to honor the home’s "Japanese vibes."
"We wanted to have a place to go where we could connect as a family," Lewis says. " I have two children under nine and I want them to play outside and swim."
