When Nestron set out to design the Legend Two prefab, the company sought to combine Bauhaus-style architecture with smart technology. “We wanted to create something with classic styling and modern technical fittings,” says lead designer Laurence Xu.

The 275-square-foot home has a simple, rectangular form that’s wrapped with aluminum composite panels. “Compared to painted walls, the panels are durable and easy to replace,” Xu says. “They provide insulation and are climate responsive, as they reduce energy costs and consumption.”

The home is entirely prefabricated, which Xu says provides a wide range of benefits. “Quality, quantity, accuracy, convenience, speed, and cost are some of the advantages of prefabrication,” he says. “It’s a process that turns architecture into a standardized, mass-producible product and lets us avoid, reduce, spot, and respond to problems in a timely and accurate manner.”

Xu and his team outfitted the Legend Two with two bedrooms and a set of built-in furnishings that are designed to preserve floor space. In the living area, a compact table pulls down from one of the walls to serve as a workspace or dining area. Built-in beds with slim silhouettes are situated in the bedrooms, and a kitchen counter set against a window provides a place to work or dine while enjoying the view.

“Placing furniture that fits a tiny home is a common problem,” Xu says. “The built-in pieces save buyers the hassle of having to find the right furniture, but they also ensure that the furniture fits the style of the house.”

In terms of finishes, the home is composed primarily of drop-lock panels, composite wood, and tempered glass. “They’re materials that are lightweight in terms of shipping, but they’re also easy to take care of,” says Xu . “And they’re sustainable—the wood composite, for example, is made from recycled wood fibers that have a light carbon footprint.”

Xu believes that he and his team are not just creating homes for individuals, but that they’re contributing to the built landscape with sustainability in mind. “The planet is everyone’s home, and so we want to make sure that Nestron houses have minimal impact, but that they’re still innovative and meet people’s needs,” he says. “We’re always updating our designs and materials to reflect our values, and to better adapt to users’ lifestyles.”
