The former sunroom, now a guest room, has a 1970s armchair by Bruno Rey.

The living room features a Noguchi lantern, a velvet Soriana sofa by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, Ingo Maurer Uchiwa 6 fan lights, and a teak Hans Wegner credenza.

Now the rebuilt staircase is a sculptural backdrop to the living room, which gained more space and natural light. The Tepee Sofa is by Lucy Kurrein, and the brass stool by Hem. The floors are Madera Belgian Oak.

A large picture window with built-in seating and storage underneath in the master bedroom frames the view of the luscious wild garden.

The bathroom has been decorated in neutral colours to help create a clutter-free sanctuary. Hidden storage is built into the ceiling above.

Above the main living room is a lofted space that can fit a set of twin mattresses for overnight guests (or Raul’s growing family).

“I wanted something that felt in tune with the surroundings, that didn’t alter this place too much,” says Raul. “And I wanted everything to be made of wood.”

The design was meant to complement the striking views of the forested hills—and the Pacific a mile away—through a wall of minimally framed glass panes spanning the cabin’s front. “Whenever I arrive, I sit on the sofa and stay there for a while, gazing at the horizon,” says Raúl.

The Queue pendant above the kitchen island is by RBW. The stairs and railing, custom designed by Isaac and Sydney, maintain an open feel.

The plant from Printwood is a recent addition, and brought the room to life; the leaves glow in the sun that comes through the shower skylight.

The stove is by the Italian maker Verona. Cristiana had asked her dad to shop for the appliance in Italy. The company had just done a trade show in Las Vegas and didn’t want to bring the floor models back to Europe, so they offered a big discount. “There’s a lot of Italians helping Italians out there,” she says.

Vertical-grain Douglas fir and Heath tiles reinforce the clean lines in the kitchen. “It’s one of my favorite places to be,” says Kate. “It just brings me joy to see our things displayed on the open shelf.” The range is from Miele, and the counters are Quartzite.

The living room also connects to a deck via sliding doors from B&B Doors and Windows.

The living room once had low ceilings, but moving the insulation to the roof plane allowed for dramatic plays of volume and light.
