Windows in every room look out to treetops and infuse the home with an abundance of natural light.

The house is LEED certified, creating a new chapter not just for the owners, but for the building itself.

A nearby, built-in coffee station was designed to look more like a furniture piece, with white rift oak stained ebony, to match the cabinets in the island.

"Where the house sits, it’s sandwiched between these two structures," says Garry. This made accessing good natural light and views a challenge. A breakthrough move in the design consisted of installing windows on the north wall with glass-backed cabinets over them, thereby admitting natural light into the house, but not giving less-than-ideal views of surrounding buildings too much visual weight.

The installation of the dry bar made them realize that they had a full wall that they could utilize for built-in cabinetry. Thus, they designed a three-sided built-in storage wall that they use to hold wine, cookbooks, and vintage glassware that Carly collects.

By stealing 15 inches from the kitchen, they were able to add a dry bar to the living room side of the space. The two first decided to do this when they came upon the idea over beers and trace paper in their favorite local bar.

Carly and Brad rearranged the former entry closet area to form a small vestibule that would block the direct view to the kitchen upon arrival. Instead of covering it with wallpaper, they created a custom stencil and painted it themselves on Cristmas Eve. They used the colors that are used throughout the house, while the triangles take cues from the triangles that exist on the original door.

The wallpaper is the Heavens Dondi Colorscape from Flat Vernacular. A Vitsoe modular shelving unit will age with the child’s storage needs.

Benjamin Moore ‘Dark Burgundy’ paint covers the built-ins, for unexpected contrast with the wallpaper. “It's like a strange color combination that you wouldn't normally expect anybody to be open to, but they were very excited about it,” says Reyes.

The wall behind the bed is covered in gold flecked hand painted wallpaper, Cosmos in Korinthian Sea, by Sarkos. The beechwood and marble nightstands are by Crate and Barrel, and the brass swing arm sconces are from Mitzi Hudson Valley.

Across the room, a vintage Poul Cadovius teak wall unit displays the couple’s cherished finds, including a collection of miniature food and sneaker sculptures.

The living room was tucked into the front portion of the parlor floor, with a curved velvet sofa from Crate & Barrel and Terrazzo hand-knotted rug from Nordic Knots defining the space. Unexpected pattern is delivered via the Geometric Prints by Marina Ancona at 10 Grand Press, custom drapery using Imogen Heath Anni Stripe Rose, and the owner’s chair reupholstered in Cutout by HBF Textiles. In a perfect combination of the homeowners, the vintage demilune Italian brass tables were refurbished with pink mirrored plexiglass.

Primary colors and straight lines fuse together in this bold apartment. A Cosmorelax Essex sofa sits in the living area, along with Maxalto Fulgens armchairs.

A cozy, library-like reading area lies just off the dining area. The wood-burning fireplace has a gas starter.

Living Area

The built-in sofa anchors the living room and faces the existing fireplace. The Leather Oval Chair with a red steel base sits off to the side, and the coffee table was fashioned by attaching vintage steel legs to another tile sample board.
