Floor Plan of The Away Frame by Robert James Higgins
Not far from the house is a 40-foot cliff, is a bear den. Since moving in, Michael and Shelley have had a few visits from their furry neighbors.
An expansive deck on the front of the A frame overlooks the stream and faces westward to maximize sunset views.
White penny tile and subway tile give the primary bath a crisp, clean feel.
Upstairs the white bathroom countertops are made from the same hemlock that was used for the staircase and countertop in the black bathroom.
A floating Fireorb wood stove warms the living room. To avoid the odd nooks and crannies that an A frame’s roofline creates, low shelves were built along the wall to hold fire wood.
Upstairs a 300-square-foot loft houses the primary bedroom and bath.
Walnut cabinetry is topped with Calacatta Murano Quartz countertops.
The interior is clad in white pine and narrow skylights help to brighten the space.
Michael Waldron, Shelley Brown, their daughters and dog hang out in the family room of their modern A frame.
The modern 1,800-square-foot was built on 8 acres of wooded land in the Catskills.
Next to the A-frame sits a low-lying outbuilding (partially concealed by vegetation) that was converted from a garage into a woodshed and artist’s studio.
The back of the home opens up to an outdoor patio, hot tub, and fire pit.
