The clients encouraged the development of hemlock trees, which grow from the creek to the building site. They create a beautiful backdrop for the second story of the main building and deck overtop the master bedroom.

Also on the lower level is a cozy office space, complete with plenty of storage.

The white sectional is by ABC Carpet & Home. It’s surrounded by a custom Sisal rug, a concrete coffee table by CB2, and a vintage wooden bench sourced from Found Object.

Brian pulled out the wall-to-wall carpeting that was installed throughout much of the home to reveal the original concrete floors underneath, which had rampant cracks. He grinded the floors down and sealed them as matte as possible.

The Fords gave the walls of the basement studio a fresh coat of crisp white paint that beautifully reflects the sunlight that streams in through casement windows.

Sitting in the mountains of Malinalco, the Wander Cabins offer a remote getaway from Mexico City.

The utilitarian washroom (situated beside the kitchen on the main floor) has a small vanity, sink, and toilet made by Moen.

The basement is meant for entertaining, with a large family room and direct access to the pool.

The coffee table is a keepsake from Beaulieu’s grandparents, made of monkeypod wood and bought in Hawaii in the 1960s. The couple flanked it with a Design Within Reach Raleigh Sofa and Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair. A Nelson Pear Lotus Floor Lamp and Rattan Ottoman from Franco Alibini finishes the room.

The walls, ceiling, and trim throughout the house were all painted Benjamin Moore “Ice Mist,” to create a “neutral backdrop, with a really nice, fine grain texture to it,” says Beaulieu, which sets off the lines of more modern furniture pieces. The light is the Secto 4201 Birch Pendant Umbrella.

The pool's long, rectangular shape mimics the verticality of the main living structure just beyond.

Jocie specified slate floor tiles and cement wall tiles by Clé, then applied Venetian plaster from Master of Plaster with the help of some friends. "It’s really fun once you get into the rhythm of it, but definitely takes some time," says the architect.

It’s simple to make lasting changes to your home, wardrobe, and everyday life that are kind to the planet.

The former closet was transformed by opening up the wall to the bedroom and adding a skylight above the bathtub. The light timber joinery and bright white surfaces enhance the feeling of light.

"I often choose finishes that allow the natural texture to show through, and finishes that emphasize the cathedrals and burls of the graining,
