The concrete wall behind the porch provides a backdrop for the wood stove and privacy from the road.

Lane also designed a detached screen porch for the property. Its orientation captures the view of a small mountain across the lake. “A New Hampshire lake house always has a screened porch,” he says. “This one allows for a separate experience that connects you to nature.”

In the primary bath, which includes the home’s only indoor shower, Lachapelle used plumbing fixtures and hardware with an oil-rubbed bronze finish that relate to the touches of black in the living space. The wood dowel and leather triangle towel holders are from Schoolhouse.

DiNiord collaborated with craftsman Ken Hood to design the concrete bench with firewood storage and detachable wood back. Douglas fir columns along the walkway creates a colonnade. The mono-sloped roof is a nod to the long roofline of the original house that stood on the property. “Reducing the angles also reflects the strictness to budget,” the wife says.

DeNiord designed a simple concrete bench with a honed top to run parallel to the randomly sized concrete pads that lead to the covered entry. He planted blueberry bushes behind the bench and a river birch tree behind the boulder. To conjure a wabi-sabi feel outdoors, diNiord poured concrete around a boulder. “It represents the interruption of perfect geometry,” he says.

The upstairs sleeping loft is used by the couple's family and friends that frequently come to visit. It’s furnished with the Ophelia Bed purchased from Rove Concepts.

The art studio is used by both Isaac, who works with oil paintings and pencil drawings, and his wife, Helen, who plays the piano: “She’s much more talented than me,” insists Isaac.

The office includes two Asari Chairs by Herman Miller purchased from Design Within Reach and overhead illumination from Kuzco Lighting.

The design of Scrubby Bay was inspired by a piece of slowly aging driftwood.

Accessible via helicopter or a 40-minute 4x4 ride overtop clifftop farm tracks, Scrubby Bay offers a remote slice of paradise on a working coastal farm.

The new kitchen is light and bright, with dark green Reform cabinets to provide a grounding energy. "We wanted colors that were calming and soothing, and it's almost got a PNW vibe,

The floors were replaced with a light oak in a herringbone pattern, and built-in casework from Reform added to provide additional storage. The sofa is by A.Rudin/Eva... Spencer.

The exterior profile stayed the same, but Shin added a fresh coat of paint and new windows.

Large floor-to-ceiling windows and organic-toned furniture and flooring gives the bedroom a natural, texturally rich take.

The front door’s glass opening is accentuated by narrow extruded aluminum frames. The muntin bars are finished in an rich onyx shade to match the framing, and the pattern of the performance divided lites complements the rest of the custom Kolbe Ultra Series windows and doors throughout the house.

The grand foyer was created to accentuate the open living space and bring more of the outside in.
