Vintage furniture looks right at home in the refurbished mid-century space.

The Brutalist estate is south-facing and placed on a steep lot, giving the home access to natural light. “During lockdown three, we were trapped at home with our beautiful cats, lounging the whole time, learning the way the sunlight would move through the space,” says Grimshaw.

A charming day bed offers a comfortable place to relax just off of the second floor landing.

The second floor landing looks onto a secondary bedroom and serves as a reading room.

The dining room features original floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinetry, framing a central brick fireplace, and 12-over-12 windows that flood the room with light.

The typical Georgian floor plan is maintained with a center staircase ascending, and another descending behind it to the lower level, which was the original kitchen for the house.

The interior palette is a mix of warm neutrals and vivid pops of color.

The kitchenette picks up the same green cabinetry as the kitchen in the main house. The pendant lighting is by Louis Weisdorf for Gubi.

Caroline Place is a minimalist home located in London, United Kingdom, designed by Groupwork + Amin Taha. Surrounded on three sides by eight and nine story mansion blocks shielding it from the heavy traffic on Bayswater Road and tourism on Queensway, Caroline Place is a quiet enclave of late 1950’s terraces north of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Built with a Modern Northern European sensibility of sharp brick lines and crisp mortar joints layered with softer timber detailing, their interior layouts remained firmly rooted in an earlier English Edwardian tradition.

Handmade terra-cotta floor tiles from Onsite Supply + Design line the shared bath. The Vixel wall tiles are from Artedomus, and below the custom shelf is a Vitra Butterfly stool by Sori Yanagi.

Bauer Brothers Salvage

The yellow curtain pulls back to supply openness for the interior, where a glass-block wall delineates the bathroom and facilitates privacy and the influx of natural light.

The architects stacked a round mirror on top of a triangular one in the bathroom to devise a playful geometric display for the space.
