Perhaps the structure’s most impressive feature is a wall-mounted BMW M1 hanging in the basement—a carefully completed job that securely bolted the engineless sports car to the wall. A custom lift carries vehicles between the structure's three levels.

The exclusive use of wood, concrete, and steel provides material continuity throughout each level. Wood panelling adds an elegant canvas for memorabilia and contrasts with concrete block walls.

An eight-foot sliding ladder provides access to upper cabinets in the garage of a carriage house in Northwestern Connecticut designed by architect Aya Maceda for Rakesh and Amanda Wilson.

Inside the closets are items like the family’s ski equipment, neatly arranged and always at the ready.

The Baltic birch plywood is offset by matte black handles from Omnia and a polished concrete floor.

On a side wall, sleek barn doors open to reveal a storage area for bikes. Stairs near the garage entrance, which features a door from Renlita, lead to a vaulted loft that was originally intended as an exercise room but is now used by Rakesh as an office.

A partial wall anchors the kitchen on one side and houses closets on the other. A w151 pendant by Wastberg hangs above the central dining area.

A Cloud Softlight pendant by Molo helps demarcate the living area, bounded by a Le Bambole sofa by Mario Bellini beside of which sits a magazine rack by Chen Chen & Kai Williams.

The pair of desks that Paul and Shoko work at in the office space look directly onto the courtyard. The concept for the design was to be able to see the sky from your seat at the desk.

The top container contains Wardell's office—and a "napping nook" above that.

A couple’s 269-square-foot getaway features a crimson exterior and an unfinished pine plywood interior.

The vintage credenza once belonged to the architect’s grandmother, and the framed drawing on the right is by Graham’s mother, artist MJ Levy-Dickson.

The new kitchen is an IKEA kitchen with Reform fronts painted a moody blue color, not unlike the ocean itself. "Sometimes it looks really gray, and sometimes it looks way more green-blue," says Jocie. "I like that. Depending on the light, it has a very different feel." The countertops are Richlite Black Diamond.

The kitchen layout was reconfigured so that the focus is on the view—the wall of windows, which look out on the ocean, is now underscored by one long, uncluttered counter. There, the faucet is Delta and the dishwasher is Bosch. The range stayed in nearly the same spot, and the opposite wall has been thickened with storage and the refrigerator column. Both the refrigerator and range are by Bertazzoni.

“It was great to work from the plans of someone who was a part of the history of architecture,” says Drapszo.
