The custom dining table—which was made by a local artisan—is located in front of west-facing windows that frame the sunset in the evenings. The table can be easily moved inside or out depending on the weather.

Michelle White, a senior curator at Houston’s Menil Collection, her husband Haden Garrett, and their nine-year-old son Oliver sit on the porch of their Houston Heights home—a Sears kit home built in the 1920s. The couple worked with local studio Janusz Design to add a new two-story section that includes a laundry area, primary suite, and garage.

Landscape studio Moody Graham collaborated on the garden design, planting mostly edibles and a riot of flowers. The steel trellis crowns the built-in limestone bench and lavender-filled planters.

The Jerusalem limestone extends from the inside out, creating continuity between the great room and terrace.

Ciguë

After spending 18 months rehabbing their 31-foot-long Airstream, the couple took it on the open road, traveling out west with their dog.

The new wooden walls stop short of the ceilings, preserving the moldings and the outline of the historic floor plan.
