“In the Eastern Townships, it’s a completely different setting. The land opens up,” Nicolas says. “You’re surrounded by agricultural fields, and the pace of life slows down. We’re within the Mont-Mégantic International Dark Sky Reserve, so the night sky is the main event.”

To avoid excavating the land, Pang and Boyle designed a structural platform to keep the cabin level.

The rear of the home faces the forest, and a wall of firewood creates a sense of seclusion. Operable windows allow for passive ventilation on the upper and lower floors.

The faucets, which are made of copper plumbing fittings, reference the history of the building and its industrial roots.

The home’s kitchen features dual Miele ovens, Thermador refrigerator and freezer, and Thermador induction cooktop. A feature wall clad in natural Carrara marble sits behind sliding cabinet uppers. Paola Lenti Heron counter stools in ‘verde scuro,’ coordinate with custom cabinet fronts, accented with Spinneybeck leather pulls.
