Set on the shores of Cedar Lake, just a ten-minute drive from Downtown Minneapolis, the historic multi-story residence provides a quiet yet convenient city escape.
Light wood floors, new drywall, and a fresh coat of white paint now gives the house a luminous quality. The front entry is to the right of the fireplace, and there are now better sight lines into the kitchen and dining area to the left.
Famed architect A. Quincy Jones designed the Calvin House in Tarzana, Los Angeles, in 1960.
"Some of my favorite elements are the reclaimed Wyoming fence wood siding and cedar tongue and groove ceilings," reveals Mackay. "The use of reclaimed wood is pretty unique."
The living room flows directly into the dining area and kitchen. Exposed rafters subtly reinforce the slated roofline and draw the eye toward the wall-to-wall windows.
Inside, understated finishes allow the stone fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows to stand out. Slate tiles line the floors while clerestory windows provide sunlight from the opposite direction.
