At one end of the house is an unconditioned space that functions like a screened-in porch. The roof trusses are made from wood from the old farmhouse, and the interiors are clad with more boards from the farmhouse, repurposed as shiplap siding. The wood stove is from Pacific Energy.

The result of the project is an artfully arranged house that looks out on open fields (protected by a land trust) and the rolling landscape beyond. “The only downside is that the area is farmed, so we get manure smells,” Doug jokes.

“We went with marble counters, using leftover materials to create a marble sink in one of the bathrooms on the main floor,” she says.

The rustic wood used for the open shelving was sourced locally, and a carpenter based in the area made the cabinetry.

A Kohler sink and drain accompany a Waterworks faucet under the new window. The custom cabinetry is painted with Farrow and Ball’s Light Gray, and the rug is from Lawrence of La Brea.

A rear view of the home shows how portions of the original, singled cottage merge with the stuccoed additions. A covered outdoor area extends from the lower level and connects to a quaint, multi-level backyard garden.

The kitchen features original cabinetry, as well as a vintage stovetop in one corner. Modern appliances and ample storage round out the space.

The lush landscaping hides an in-ground saltwater pool and a bluestone patio.

The all-new kitchen features European-designed cabinetry, as well as quartz countertops, upgraded appliances, and open shelving.

The clients' request for a more flexible space that could accommodate guests and a home office was met by removing the wall and building closets in each corner. The original space featured a sloped ceiling, which was preserved, while two custom day beds make room for a centered desk and chair.

The pine ceiling was removed, and wall-to-wall carpeting installed underneath a Rejuvenation bed. A former built-in home office in the adjacent hallway was retrofitted to accommodate a row of closets.

The home's small footprint inspired Hendricks to choose a minimal paint palette featuring two shades of Farrow & ball white used throughout the first floor. A mix of midcentury pieces sourced from local antique shops sits against a canvas of custom linen curtains. A Brazilian leather sofa adds a sumptuous touch, and the rosewood chairs are upholstered in a serene, olive-green fabric.
