“Our cabins are designed to meet high standards of energy efficiency and, at the same time, offer comfort to our guests,” Gabriel says.

Large windows look out onto the Hudson River. Inside, simple pieces provide a counterpoint to the outdoors, like a Hay modular sofa, Noguchi stools, a Barcelona table, and a USM Haller media console.

A line of doors beneath the windows reveals Johnson’s original ventilation system. Slats open to the exterior and allow the breeze to circulate throughout the home. From the outside, they underscore the large windows and, according to Jiminie, they keep the house a perfect temperature.

Two mustard Crescent swivel chairs and throw pillows from West Elm add a touch of color to the living area. Under the chairs, a steel plate from the original shipping container reminds everyone what the house used to be. The fireplace is Fire Drum 2 by Malm and the firewood holder is by David DeSantis.

The stairs serve as accents throughout the project. Inside they appear as both a positive and a negative of one the solid block shape that makes up the house.

“The lighting in the shower makes it feel like an outdoor shower,” says Shannon. “It’s like you’re in Hawaii.”

Boat design inspired the concept for the bedroom and bathroom. “Boats are where great design meets small spaces,” explains de la Vega.

The house's interior includes no drywall, its structural walls also becoming part of the aesthetic.

The entry area is full of light, its CLT walls given a gentle whitewash to encourage reflectivity.

The stairs—crafted from white oak, glass, and blackened fabricated steel—were a central element to the design of the interiors.

The exuberant hot pink of the Magenta House reveals a calmer, plywood-clad interior.

The emphasis on wood finishes continues inside, where the skylit atrium bifurcates the house. On the second floor, the primary bedroom and a pair of smaller bedrooms straddle the stairwell.

The flooring switches from warm, engineered white oak in the living room to concrete in the kitchen to make cleaning a breeze.

The covered outdoor deck has become the most popular space at the cabin, offering a hybrid of indoor and outdoor.

The house's south side looks onto the meadow that Jenny and Shawn first fell in love with.

With its large covered porch and glazed walls, the Beaver Creek Cabin frames the forest like a picture.

Curtis swapped out the flooring for a handmade ceramic tile, and used a rich dark wood for the counter. The existing cabinet bases were repainted.

The lofted sleeping space and staircase were built with construction-grade lumber.
