The team preserved the blue and buggy pine paneling, which was important to the owners, and made it more of a feature by bringing in new pieces, all of which highlight the double-height ceilings. "That pine, it's really filled with character," says Fowler.

The dining area is located in what used to be the passageway between the house and the barn. A Moon luminaire by designer Davide Groppi hangs above the table, with tall, sliding glass doors extending the space to the enclosed yard.

A Wyndham Collection freestanding tub anchors the master bath. Low-flow fixtures are installed throughout.

All three bedroom suites come with a soaking tub overlooking ocean views.

Living, dining, and kitchen spaces flow into one another in the soaring great room. Here, the Sacramento firm placed new, polished concrete slabs over the original ones to alleviate unsightly cracks.

The dining room table is also from Habitat. The oak veneered plywood is from Peter Benson Plywood.

The lower floor houses a spa, gym, and office. A built-in bathroom by Espace Cuisine includes a sauna.

Space for entertaining was important to the couple, who wanted a home they could share with friends.
