An open vertical steel divider, custom-designed by Tom, replaces a solid dividing wall. The steel screen spans from floor to ceiling, with randomly placed openings allowing light to freely pass through. âBeing open, it maintains sightlines from the kitchen through the living space,â says Tom, â[and] it sometimes acts as shelves for items â phone, keys, wine bottles, pinecones.â A Sculptural Glass Globe Pendant from West Elm hangs dramatically from the top of the screen.
Painting the wood paneling behind the fireplace (in Benjamin Moore âWhite Doveâ), laying new sugar pine floors, and adding new windows and doors completely transformed the living room space. A deep clean of the knotty pine tongue and groove ceilings was enough to bring them back to life, while the trussesâ new black-brown paint brings sharp contrast.
