Nestled in the Hollywood Hillside, the well-maintained 1940s home presents a delightful time capsule, as no changes have been to its original floor plan.

Placing the fireplace on the edge of the room instead of dead center looks and feels more intentional.

Despite its petite size, the bright and airy kitchen now features top-of-the-line appliances and marble countertops.

The remodeled kitchen offers a whole corner of glass, and continues as a backsplash beneath the new cabinetry.

Before: The previous owners had spruced up the cabin, so it was in fine condition and the bones were there when the couple bought it.

In the guesthouse, now used primarily as an office and art studio, a Womb chair covered in Myung Jin mohair is the perfect perch for enjoying views of the Seattle skyline and the local wildlife—from eagles flying overhead to seals swimming by. The accent table is by Martha Sturdy and the hemp rug is from Rug Art. Underneath is the existing concrete floor with exposed aggregate. The Hanko chairs are by Chadhaus and the Mortise table is by Sawkille.

The upper levels of the six-bedroom, four-bathroom Mountain House feature large picture windows that offer sweeping valley views.

Taking cues from nautical casework, Osmose Design crafted an undulating, white oak kitchen in an irresistibly quirky Tudor home in Portland, Oregon.

Thanks to an existing functional layout and adequate size, there wasn't much need to change the plan of the kitchen and the placement of appliances and plumbing.

Original pine wall boards are painted white to reflect light in the den. A George Nelson pendant hangs above a clean-lined sectional sofa atop carpet tiles by FLOR. The pillows are made from MissPrint Garden City fabric, and the quilt is from Haptic Lab.

Sutherland added a large arrangement of windows facing the lake in the living room. The top windows are tilt-and-turn, and the bottom windows are fixed. The owners bought the sofas at ABC Carpet & Home in Manhattan, and the coffee table at Camden Market in London. The pillows are made from Dandelion Two fabric by Angie Lewin for St. Jude.

A new addition accommodates a spacious, sunny dining area. The wife, a huge Gillian Welch fan, purchased the silkscreen prints above the banquette specifically for the space. Michael Miritello of Century Design Workshop in Cincinnati made the dining table. The pendant light is from Barn Electric Company, the table lamp in the corner is from a local vintage shop, and the backsplash tile was designed by Angela Adams for Ann Sacks.

The powder room features Dulux Australia’s Briar paint.

The children’s bathroom features a sink from Reece and Pittorica tiles from Classic Ceramics.

A solid terrazzo sink juts out from the wall with an integrated wooden drawer. The mirror conceals an oak cabinet.

The brass fixtures are from Gessie’s GOCCIA series. Brass borders add "a sharp edge to the tiled, curved spaces." The scalloping appears in this space on a large deconstructed scale as well as in the curved detail of the floating vanity.

The living area is intentionally spare to accentuate the presence of the mammoth beech tree.

The sculptural oak staircase reinforces the villa's predilection for simplicity and natural materials.
