The Case Study Furniture Bentwood Daybed Couch from Modernica was placed with a Shop Territory rug. The linens are by Cultiver and The Citizenry, and the photograph is by Morgan Pansing.

In the office, a Room & Board Rowan desk joins a Pottery Barn Nash chair, with the 9602 floor lamp by Gubi. The wall art is by Katie Gong.

The Thompson Canopy Bed is from Maiden Home, with white oak Jameson nightstands by Faithful Roots. The custom wall hanging is Woven by Ro, and is combined with prints from the Block Shop. The sconces are Circa Lighting’s Lancelot Pivoting Light.

In the guest room, an Ethnicraft bedside table sits beside a Floyd bed. The wall sconce is from Human Home and the art from Poster Club. Shop Territory wall hangings add texture, and roman shades from the Shade Store envelope the windows.

Now, a Sedona Straight Arm Sconce from the Lucent Light Shop illuminates the Enter Mirror from Ferm Living, and the Coyuchi Rippled Stripe Organic Shower Curtain lines the bathtub.

To create a bit more texture in the kitchen and baths, the couple added classic checkered tiles from the local hardware store—an inexpensive option that broke up the polished concrete floors spanning the rest of the house. Pavonetti designed and built the pedestal sinks using reclaimed cedar siding.

The existing Ikea cabinet boxes received new Semihandmade fronts: the DIY Flat Slab painted Benjamin Moore's “Revere Pewter.” The butcher block was replaced with a Ceaserstone Empira White slab, and the wood shelves were preserved, though received new brass brackets. The brass hardware is from Rejuvenation and the pendant is the Pirlo from Tech Lighting. The new zellige tile is from Riad, in the Natural White color.

Alexandra has filled the shelves with “a collection of both new and found things,” says the homeowner. “I have always collected ceramics from my travels and local artists, so I love having a way to put these on display to remind me of good memories.” The collection here includes Uzumati Ceramic Bodie Mugs from Saffron & Poe, a Virginia Sin bowl, a Bloomist vase, and Janet Kojima ceramics.

The artwork is a limited edition print, called Pressed Flowers II, from the L.A.-based studio Visual Contrast.

The plants were all gifted from the previous homeowners.

The Smiths’ new cabin, designed by Risa Boyer Architecture and completed in 2020, sits in the same spot as their previous home, on five acres on Mount Veeder, in Northern California. Somehow, the red chicken coop, which is constructed of wood, survived the fire with the chickens still alive inside.

Architect Bundit Kanisthakhon set the structure above ground as a precaution against flooding. At the Davises’ request, he ensured that the house can be disassembled for easy relocation.

“The roofline is angled so that the clients can wake up in the morning and see Mount Ka‘ala,” says architect Bundit Kanisthakhon.

At James and Sara Davis’s weekend home on O‘ahu, double-height doors open to a lanai-like space at the center of the house. The home’s energy needs are met via solar panels set by the entry.

The couple incorporated wood-and-glass sliding doors from ETO left over from a home they’d remodeled previously.
