The concrete-and-steel home by Faulkner Architects gives one family a refined escape in the mountains of Northern California.

Objects in the primary bedroom include an ash sculpture by Tom and a 19th-century Shaker carpet beater. The Berenice lamp is from Luceplan.

A view from the second-floor hallway shows the stainless-steel kitchen counter and its leathered black granite surround. On the wall in the dining area is an etching by Richard Serra titled Vesturey I.

Quartersawn oak built-ins throughout the house were fabricated by Toronto cabinetmaker Built Work Design.

In the dining area, a collection of 19th-century bottles sits on a table from Restoration Hardware. The Wishbone chairs are by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn, and the pendants are made from porcelain sockets from a hardware store.

In the living room, CH22 Wishbone chairs by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn and a vintage steamer lounge flank a custom marble coffee table. The Horse Fair, by Dutch painter Willem Carel Nakken, rests on the fireplace, and antique grain shovels lean nearby.

Furniture designer Tom Deacon teamed up with pal and architect Andrew Jones to renovate his Toronto townhouse. “Architects tend to think of the building first, the interiors second, and last, the furniture. Our approach was the opposite,” Jones says.

The units are installed on a site in Hurley, New York, overlooking Twin Lakes, and some of them will include private hot tubs.

In Darby, Montana, just steps from the Bitterroot River, John Shoemaker and Greg Case built a home base for their fly-fishing group vacations.

The all-electric kitchen features oak cabinetry and a marble countertop.

The living room features a sofa by Medley Home, a rug by Dash & Albert from Annie Selke, Akari Paper Lanterns by Noguchi, and an Aluminum Group Management chair by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller.

The airy, light-filled interior is made of reclaimed timber and siding from a 19th-century barn.
