Passive cooling takes advantage of the home's perch above a canyon, where breezes can easily drift in.

A new sink ($259) is decked with a new brass faucet ($183) and a brass Aragon flush mount from Hudson Valley Lighting ($790) above it.

The living room is dubbed the "Ladies Who Lunch" room. Benjamin Moore’s Chippendale Rosetone covers the walls, in rich contrast to the preserved wood ceiling, and a medley of vintage furnishings fills out the space. The rug is from IKEA and the chandelier is Schoolhouse Electric.

Lisbon firm Aurora Arquitectos and local studio FURO collaborated on the renovation of an 18th-century structure in Vila Real de Santo António, a city in Portugal’s southern Algarve region.

The couple designed the great room to be a comfortable room for gathering with friends and hosting dinner parties.
