The plywood ceiling and walls lend and warmth and texture and reference the trunks of the trees around the house. The floors are made with epoxy resin, a material that’s as elegant as it is low-maintenance.

The micro home in Warsaw that architect Adam Pszczolkowski designed for his family and friends features expansive windows framed by plywood and white-painted HPL panels. "I chose white because of its modern and timeless character," the architect says.

Nate’s Bedroom Now three, Nate occupies coveted corner real estate in a third-floor room with a treetop-level view. “It’s a great space,” Casale says, “although it is the noisiest room in the house because of the street. But by now he’s so used to sleeping through all of the sounds, I don’t think it bothers him.” The brightness of the space is enhanced by an accent wall coated in fire engine–red chalkboard paint (Benjamin Moore Natura flat-finish paint in Vermillion mixed with unsanded grout) that Nate can scribble on—as soon as his parents get around to telling him that it’s allowed. A matching red pendant lamp from the Soho shop Kiosk hangs above a six-foot-tall teepee by Dexton Kids.

The wall and floors are tongue-and-groove plywood.

The master bedroom is a real continuation of the main living space; Varpu rides her tricycle through, and the whole family gathers on the bed to watch movies and cartoons on the television across the room.

The living room is light and airy thanks to the glass wall and doors (formerly a solid wall) framing the parkland greenery outside.

The compact living area is just off the kids’ room.

Designed to attract young, tech-savvy city dwellers, the Lodges on Vashon uses virtual registration and check-in and is fitted with handcrafted objects by local island-based artisans.

Inspired by teak decking, and echoing the craftsmanship and design of the Tea Clippers that opened trade routes around the world, Pedersen clearly references his inspiration, using generous deck-like slats, finely tapered legs that hint at a ship’s mast—even giving the table a hull-like edge. The Clipper collection is simultaneously a nod to a nautical past, as well as a new take on al fresco dining.

Cleverly placed apertures pierce this skinny residence in Maringá, granting the lush interior an airy feel. On the opposite end of the entrance is a backyard garden with an outdoor grilling station—the hotspot for large parties and family affairs.

Once through the street-level entrance, the property's modern garage door comes into view. Stairs lead up to the kitchen.

“Not a drop of water is wasted here,” Nina says of the yard. “This is huge for Mexico City. The whole terrace is a water collector.”
