The designers took inspiration from the second bathroom's curved vanity in creating a new custom vanity.

A little set of stairs leads to a reading nook in Alex's room. The stairs contain hidden storage.

Storage is built in wherever possible throughout the home—including in this nook underneath the stairs—allowing the family to optimize the space

In the new addition, the designers created a guest bathroom with a spa-like feel. The paint was color matched with the blue tile from Zia Tile in the shower room.

Now the kitchen opens to the living room and dining room in one open space.

The living room got a facelift with a new fireplace and built-in seating and storage that flows into the hearth. The marble fireplace surround is the same stone used in the kitchen, and the bench is white oak.

The floors and casework are white oak, and the counters and backsplash are marble. The sconces are a custom design by Workaday, which is available through their Portland shop Daygoods.

Shahane enlarged the ensuite bathroom, co-opting closet space from the other bedroom to do so, and carved out more closet space.

Shelves in the kitchen are built into the stone wall, using a traditional method of design and fabrication.

The guest room is part of the addition off the kitchen, and can act as an ADU when necessary.

Bedrosians tile covers the walls and floor, with sconces by Kelly Wearstler for Visual Comfort and California Faucets.

Mudroom cabinetry creates consistency with the rest of the house.

“We value feeling over a perfect or manufactured finish,” says Kathryn, “so we jumped at anything touchy-feely, such as the droplet-like tiles cladding bathroom wing walls and structural columns that we are constantly petting.” Texture is at play everywhere, from a bathroom’s pebble-wash terrazzo floors that wrap up walls to the lush landscaping outside.
