Entertainment and dining spaces sit below the angular roof in the penthouse.

Sayes and Stock furnished their living area with a Slow Chair by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra, and a Spar floor light by Jamie McLellan for Resident. A print by Stephen Bambury sits atop a sideboard that Sayes built while studying at the University of Auckland.

The architects wrapped the glazing around the corner of the living room to bring the landscape inside. The open-web trusses run continuously from indoors to out. A fleet of Modernica furnishings complement a Prototype Boomerang chair by Richard Neutra, a custom Moufelt industrial felt rug, and Circa50 butterfly chairs.

The family's favorite Kandinsky (shown above) served as inspiration for the interiors.

The addition now forms a comfortable and fully functional new social heart for the home.

Located at the opposite end of the apartment from the living room, the bedroom remains light and bright throughout the day.

White shelving blends in seamlessly with the crisp, white walls.

The two-bedroom, two-bath property features an open living space with nine-foot ceilings.

The expansive open-plan living area is also bright and airy.

The post-and-beam ceiling is highlighted with pendant globe lights.

The large pendant lamp was designed by Arik Levy for Vibia, and the TamTam floor lamp was designed by Fabien Dumas for Marset.

"We are able to...take full advantage of the northern orientation, introducing passive solar design techniques, which allows the design to maximize its thermal efficiency," says MODO founder Michael Ong.

In the main living space, brightly colored furnishings—including an iconic womb chair and a sofa from Ligne Roset—create a playful interior space for lounging. A laminated glass floor allows light to pass further between the various levels.

Key pieces of joinery were used to visually distinguish the thresholds defining the foyer, living and dining areas, kitchen, butler’s pantry, and study.
