The primary bathroom went for a complete transformation with fresh new tiles, vanity, and fixtures. Thanks to the white and pale tones of the surrounding space, as an opposing color of vibrant and bright blue, everyone’s eyes will naturally be drawn to the shower area -which in a way becomes the main attraction. Using a blue tile with detailed wave-like designs for the walls and another stylish, blue tile flooring, stepping in for a shower here is like diving into a serene under-the-sea fantasy.

A gray onyx and bronze fireplace mantel is flanked by turquoise glass sconces and a vintage Fontana Arte mirror. Alongside sits a bone console and a sculptural stainless steel shelving unit by François Monnet. The room features a painting by artist Ilona Savdie, and drawings by Karin Haas.

O’Sullivan designed the ceiling “to have a knitted or woven quality like that of wool or silk.” It dives down over the kitchen and dining area, eventually reaching a point at the entry that is low enough to touch. Here, resident Jes Wood leans against the onyx kitchen island while her daughter Ruby hangs out. Replica Jean Prouvé chairs surround the dining table; a vase by Bruce and Estelle Martin for Kamaka Pottery sits on top. The Reel table under the television is by Atelier Oï for B&B Italia.

The bathroom features terrazzo floor tiles—which have a similar pattern to the material used to construct the fireplace in the living room.

The powder bathroom features a custom stone sink and white oak vanity base built by the homeowner.

The spacious main bathroom (a former bedroom), joins marble, brass, and green elements. It is innovative for its use of "micro-spaces" that are subdivided and contained within the scalloping of the rear wall. They are meant to make each element feel special and separate, dividing a large room into smaller spaces that "hug you as you use them."

The mesh continues around the exterior balcony. In the dining room, the table and chairs are by Gazzda.

Board-formed concrete surrounds the fireplace, with custom storage above. The rugs are from Muuto and the chairs by Gazzda.

The primary bathroom has Regoli Collection tile from Ames Tile and a Corian vanity counter.

Monika and Darren Bennett worked with SM Studio on their custom home in Vancouver, B.C. The main house has 2703 square feet, plus a 514 square foot garage/studio on the rear alley, with a courtyard and pool in between the two buildings.

In the main living spaces, Montgomery exposed the Douglas fir LVLs, which are structural support beams that span the entire ceiling and don’t necessitate support columns.

“I’m the queen of Ikea cabinets,” laughs Jade. She commissioned custom birch-veneer plywood for the doors from L.A.’s Anderson Plywood. While she was budget-conscious in many ways, she also is willing to splurge where it counts. “Hardware is where I spend money. That’s where people touch and feel it,” she says. “It’s important to me that it feels significant.” Here, pulls and knobs come from Mockett. The countertop is a man-made resin from Arizona Tiles in La Quinta.

The new kitchen-and-dining area connects to the living area and the rear yard.

The focus of the renovation was the kitchen, where the textures of tiles and brickwork play backdrop to considered, bespoke carpentry.

Homeowners Izabel and Paul made a large open kitchen a top priority, insisting on counters at double the standard width.

The split provides abundant natural light and a subtle pause, as well as a physical and visual connection down to the kitchen.
