"In some ways the strongest attributes of the house are probably the outside spaces,” says Court. The original cedar deck was replaced with Kebony decking that wraps around a century-old cherry tree. A pair of Andy rockers from Mamagreen face an ottoman by Kenneth Cobonpue. The accordion doors are a NanaWall SL-60 system that allows the main room of the guesthouse to open completely to the deck.

A new curling staircase accommodates the new layout. Formerly the staircase had been near the front entrance.

The sliding glass-walled dining room links the kitchen and living room with the bedrooms.

Seattle-based Robert Hutchison Architecture worked with the homeowners to design an addition to the residence that respects its original post-and-beam construction.

This carefully renovated 1950s home is located in the Hilltop Community, which features a collection of residences designed by Pacific Northwest architects including Wendell Lovett, Paul H. Kirk, and Fred Bassetti.

In the powder room on the main floor, &Tradition's Verner Panton-designed Flowerpot VP1 pendant pops against crisp, white subway tiles.

The lattice-like bookcase separating the living room and family room is part of a design approach that Cristián says “blurs the line between building and furniture.” The walls and floors are concrete in all of the units.

The flooring in the main room and bedroom is Worthwood Solid End Grain from Oregon Lumber.

The combined laundry room/powder room features Sardines Charcoal wallpaper by local artist Kate Golding.
